Chapelton Steading can be found just outside the delightful village of Boat of Garten in the Cairngorm National Park, approximately 5 miles(8km) from Aviemore.
Our Highland home is a tastefully converted farm steading of which one wing - a granite stone barn - has been architecturally designed to create two individual country house apartments, each offering self-catering accommodation in a quiet rural retreat.

For regular visitors, you will notice a change in the look of the website and more details including the ability to check availability. In February 2010 we (Jonathan and Helen) took over the property. We hope to continue the hospitality and quality that the previous owners, Paddy and Maureen, clearly put into the two apartments. Very little has changed, except that there is now an additional bedroom (formerly part of the main house) for the Hayloft that that should provide greater flexibility for visitors.
The properties are side-by-side and entirely independent. In the photograph above, the Hayloft is the nearest apartment with the Old Stable visible behind (past the fence).
THE OLD STABLE is all on the ground level and has a large bedroom with twin beds that can be converted to a king size double bed. There is a spacious bathroom with shower and bath, sitting room and kitchen. There are patio doors to the courtyard and a sheltered outdoor sitting area. Click here for more details including some new photos of the rooms.
THE HAYLOFT has a double bedroom upstairs with a large en-suite bathroom including shower and bath. On the ground floor there is now a further bedroom with a single bed and a bunkbed. Also downstairs is an attractive and comfortable living area with integral kitchen. There is a secluded patio with views to the hills. Click here for more details including some new photos of the rooms.
Both apartments are fully equipped to a very high standard which includes dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, flat screen TV with integral DVD player. There is also a good supply of games and reading material.
Guests can enjoy the large country garden with its colourful herbaceous borders, kitchen garden and meandering stream in woodland surrounds. As of July we have been watching the Pine Martin and occasional Capercaille in the adjoining woodlands. Tables and chairs are provided for outdoor dining on the patio and courtyard. The magnificent views to the Cairngorm mountains are a feature, with the rural setting and surrounds all contributing to create a perfect Highland setting for those seeking a relaxing break.
There is a no-smoking policy (house and grounds) and we regret no pets. Guide dogs are welcome and the Old Stable is wheelchair accessible.
A cot and high chair are available at no extra charge but please mention when booking as we only have one of each.
A WIFI facility is available for those with laptops.
We have a secure workshop for the storage of cycles, golf clubs, fishing tackle, etc. This also provides a useful drying area. Even muddy mountain bikes and wet canoes are welcome!
We hope that you enjoy your stay. Jonathan & Helen Bellarby.
